Introduced in 1973, the MG B GT V8 was the ultimate development of the MG B range. By fitting Rover’s lightweight 3.5-litre aluminium V8 into the GT’s elegant Pininfarina-designed body, MG created a refined and powerful grand tourer.
With 102 kW and 262 Nm, the GT V8 offered effortless performance, capable of 0–100 km/h in under 8 seconds and a top speed of 200 km/h. Despite the extra power, the aluminium construction of the engine meant weight was kept low, preserving the MG B’s nimble handling while adding relaxed, long-legged cruising ability.
Only 2,591 examples were factory-built between 1973 and 1976, making the GT V8 one of the rarest MG models and highly sought after today for its blend of British character, usability, and unmistakable V8 soundtrack.
This MGB GT V8 is a highly original example built in 1973 which was imported to South Africa around 2000. It saw little use for almost 20 years and was extensively recommissioned by the current owner when he purchased it in 2018. This process included the following:
