The Porsche 944 Turbo Cup car was the lightweight factory-built race car created for the International one make racing series in the 1980’s. Porsche launched the championship in 1986 to give amateur and professional drivers a cost-effective way to compete using identical equipment. The series ran in West Germany, France, Canada, the United States, and South Africa. The race cars featured weight savings with lightweight magnesium oil sump and intake manifolds, produced more power by using different Turbos with revised ECU mapping, reinforced chassis and adjustable Bilstein coil-over dampers, stiffer springs, thicker anti-roll bars

Porsche produced fewer than 200 944 Turbo Cup cars globally during their production run. Only a small fraction of those were built for the 1987 season across series in Germany, France, South Africa, and North America. In 1987, LSM Distributors imported 19 of these 944 Turbo Cup race cars to South Africa with Toby Venter winning the championship in 1988 and Sarel van der Merwe in 1989

This Porsche 944 Turbo Cup is one of the original 19 cars imported by LSM Distributors in 1987 for the National Panasonic Porsche 944 Turbo Cup Championship. It has since been road registered with a “Used” status RC1, a 1987 model year and has covered only 50 700km.

This is an opportunity to secure a low production Porsche which represents an important chapter in Porsche Motorsport history.
