Now into its eighth generation the Porsche 911 is a motoring icon. Production started in 1964 with a 2.0l rear mounted “Flat 6” air cooled engine paired to a 5-speed dogleg gearbox with the basic concept and DNA remaining virtually unchanged to date.

The 911T was introduced with a 2.2L engine boasting 130bhp with carburetors. (Fuel injection in the USA due to emission regulations). With the introduction of “Model year 1972”, the engine was upgraded to 2.4L and the gearbox received the H pattern configuration which replaced the “dog leg” version. This was derived from the 908-race car to handle the increased power and torque. Due to oversteer with the rear mounted engine, the 1972 model year also had the oil tank moved in front of the right rear wheel as opposed to the traditional layout behind the right rear wheel. This was done to improve balance and weight distribution but only lasted for the 1972 model year due to changes in safety regulations

This Example:

This Porsche 911 T is a desirable numbers matching example in its original colour of Light yellow. What makes this example special is that it had a comprehensive and detailed nut and bolt bare metal restoration between February 2023 and April 2024 with well chosen upgrades to enhance the driving experience

Body:

  • Painted in original Light-yellow code 117, the body was hand stripped to bare metal and fenders rebuilt to RS spec.
  • Primer (epoxy US product then base for yellow), Max Meyer paint,
  • All new rubbers (R250k)
  • 993 exterior body sound proofing fitted around gearbox
  • Door frames and window frames stripped to bare rebuilt and coated black along w mirrors and window trim - correct P code for satin black.
  • The Cabin - 3-layer sound proofing, internal floor seam sealer as well as exterior, heat shield in roof new headliner, carpets, redone seats w bolsters and headrests (new leather, seats R60k), dash, door cards, door pockets.
  • Pedals all stripped and rebuilt

Engine:

  • S upgrades producing approximately 230 BHP
  • Complete rebuild no cut crank - Inc bearings, threads (14hrs), heads, alternator, oil tank
  • New EFI Inc Ecu, injectors, 964 fuel rails, engine loom
  • RSR type lightweight headers ceramic coate

Exhaust

  • New stainless steel X pipe inside original case laser welded and high heat coated

Gearbox

  • Correct housing replaced,
  • Shift sleeves synchros dogteeth bearings seals
  • Clutch kit (in PP friction plate release bearing - Sachs)
  • CVs rebuilt w new cages
  • Gear linkage complete refresh

Electrical:

  • Upgraded blade fuse box (40hrs),
  • New looms for starter, battery, aircon, lighting, new lighting switches and ignition switch
  • Gauges refreshed too
  • Aircon - Singer type new install w ecu, dash switch, Cayman evaporator titanium
  • 160amp alternator new
  • New light housings and lenses

Brakes:

  • S calipers rebuilt to new, discs pads new

Steering and suspension

  • Steering rack and column rebuilt and wiper motor and bushes and arms
  • Complete suspension rebuild new rubbers, sleeves, CV, bearings, shocks, coated and rebuilt to stock Inc tortion bars and sway bars
