The 2nd generation Mercedes Benz S class was the longest running S class ever, in production from 1979 to 1991. The W126 series introduced a range of light alloy V8 engines and a wind tunnel developed shape significantly improved fuel consumption.

The Coupe version, the C126, featured elegant pillarless styling with seating for 4. Initially available in two versions, the 380 SEC and 500 SEC, the big Benz coupé enjoyed effortless performance as they were powered by single-overhead cam V8 engines with Bosch electronic fuel injection and a four-speed automatic transmission.

At the 1985 Frankfurt Motor Show three new models were unveiled, the 420 SEC, 500 SEC and a new flagship badged the 560 SEC.

Improvements included:

• dual-range (Sport and Economy) automatic transmission,
• Innovative V8 engines – silicone liners to prevent wear
• revised 15” alloy wheels, upgraded brakes., 215/65 tyres, ABS,
• The lower body sills were redesigned, giving the SEC a cleaner look
• speed-sensitive suspension and various interior upgrades.
