The Mercedes Benz SL, Sport Light, was first launched in 1954 and caused a sensation with its Gullwing doors and motorsport derived technology. The Mercedes Benz R129 is the fourth generation of the SL and is one of the most high-quality models produced. The final facelift (1999 to 2001) was the most refined and modern version and benefited from a decade of refinements.

Notable improvements were new engines, in particular the 5.0l M113 V8 which was lighter, had dual spark ignition and known for its reliability and ease of maintenance and the smooth and adaptive 5 speed electronic automatic gearbox. Exterior refinements included new wing mirrors, new taillights, new bumpers, side skirts, body colour door handles and new 17 inch 5 hole alloy wheels.

The interior now featured Nappa leather as standard, updated gauges and the Electronic stability programe (ESP) was now standard too

The final facelift R129 (1999 to 2001) is highly sought after as it provides the most "modern" experience with the least amount of issues.
