The production of the Mercedes Benz R107 SL (Sport Light) range began in 1971 and continued until 1989 with a range of different engine and transmission options available. Designed by the original 300SL designer, Friedrich Geiger, the R107 was the replacement for the well known and successful W113 series and came with a soft-top and an optional hard top along with optional foldable rear seats to provide more flexibility.
The Mercedes Benz 300SL was officially released in 1985 and went on to be produced until 1989, replacing the 280SL. It was powered by a naturally aspirated 3.0L straight six engine and coupled to either a 3 or 4 speed automatic which sends the power to the rear wheels producing 187 BHP. Performance was also optimized when Mercedes introduced the Bosch KE Jetronic engine management system in 1985.
This example of the Mercedes Benz R107 series is a 300SL that was produced in 1988 and comes with a full book set and a comprehensive service history. It is a good example which spent its early life in Johannesburg and then purchased by its Cape Town owner approximately 8 years ago, It is finished in the Nautic Blue Metallic paint scheme with a lovely grey interior to match. This 300SL also has the optional hardtop and has the factory fitted air-conditioning system making this a highly desirable late model R107.
A great opportunity to own one the most desirable Mercedes Benz roadsters.
