The Mercedes Benz SL, Sport Light, was first launched in 1954 and caused a sensation with its Gullwing doors and motorsport derived technology. The third generation SL, the R 107, followed the Mercedes Benz SL tradition of front engine, rear wheel drive with an incredibly smooth, luxurious & now powerful package. The 280sl was produced from 1974 until 1985 and was powered by 2.8 litre straight six engines now with a double overhead camshaft

These Mercedes Benz 280sl’s are sought after, in many cases in preference to the V8 engine SL’s, due to the superior road manners and improved fuel consumption. They are still powerful producing 182 BHP and from 1980 the straight six powerplant was paired to the four-speed automatic gearbox. The R107 series SL’s are among the most sought after modern classics due to their classic style, build quality, reliability and ease of use.
