The BMW E30 was originally launched in 1982 and is renowned as one of the most iconic BMWs of all time. At the time of its release, there was no convertible option available. However, in 1986, Baur, the German coachbuilder, began converting the E30 chassis into convertible models. This conversion involved removing the roof and reinforcing the chassis to maintain structural integrity. It maintained its B and C pillars resulting in a Targa-style vehicle with removable roof panels. This made it the ideal coupe/convertible BMW of its era.
10 865 had been made in Europe (1 806 right-hand drive to the UK) and a further 3 561 assembled in South Africa.
