Maserati have a habit of perfecting their cars with end of lifecycle tweaks, and this was the case with the Maserati GranSport V8 2+2

The Maserati Coupe lifecycle can be divided into three phases:

1. 1998 to 2002 - The Maserati 3200 GT Coupe was introduced at the 1998 Paris show in "Boomerang" taillight form powered by a 3.2l Twin turbo V8 producing 370 BHP
2. 2002 to 2004 - The 4200 "Coupe" lost the "Boomerang" taillights and the awesome 4.2l Ferrari built naturally aspirated V8 producing 390 BHP was installed
3. 2004 to 2007 - The Maserati GranSport was introduced at the 2004 Geneva show as a sharper, sportier version of the 4200 Coupe and featured the following improvements:

• A power increase of 10 BHP
  • New inlet manifolds
  • A new exhaust system with pneumatic valves releasing back pressure and improving sound above 4000 rpm with the sport button pressed
• New software resulting in gearchanges 35% faster than the 4200 Coupe
• Retuned suspension
• A 10mm lower ride height
• Improved aerodynamics
• Styling changes overseen by Frank Stephenson
• Improved interior with high-quality finishes:
  • Poltrona Frau leather
  • Extended centre console in carbon fibre (similar to the Ferrari Challenge Stradale)
  • Aluminium racing pedals

The above enhancements resulted in:

• Slingshot performance
• Improved handling
• Faster gearchanges
• A Rich V8 sound
• Good build quality
• Great looks
• A good balance of analogue driving pleasure and modern technology

This Maserati GranSport is a late production 2007 example and one of only 29 imported to South Africa. Desirable options include

• Black on Black colour combination
• Rims painted in Grey (factory option)
• Full leather interior package with leather headliner
• Carbon fibre entry sills
• Aluminium racing pedals

This example recently underwent a health check by Maserati Cape Town, a major service plus new Pirelli rear tyres have just been fitted
