The Mercedes Benz SL, Sport Light, was first launched in 1954 and caused a sensation with its Gullwing doors and motorsport derived technology. The third generation SL, the R 107, followed the Mercedes Benz SL tradition of front engine, rear wheel drive with a smooth, luxurious, and powerful package.
The R107 was the direct replacement for the W113 SL (Pagoda) and was in production from 1971 to 1989. The Mercedes Benz 350sl was the first model of the R107 and used the M116 3.5l V8 engine from the W108, W109 and W111 series which produced 192 BHP
This Mercedes Benz 350SL is an early production 1972 model and has covered 130 670km.
Optional extras ordered on this 350sl include:
It has been in single ownership from 1978 to 2022 and a large file of records and invoices was built up over this period.
It was imported to South Africa in 1992 when the owners of the car moved to South Africa. This is an authentic example of the R107 series Mercedes Benz SL's with the classic charm unique to the early production cars.
