The Gol, not Golf, is a Volkswagen model produced in Brazil for the Latin American market since 1980. It was initially powered by the 1.3l flat four cylinder from the VW Beetle and became the one of the best sellers in South America
The powerplant in this example is far removed from the original 1.3l flat four cylinder.
This Volkswagen Gol was built by Volkswagen tuning specialists Ferroli to compete in the annual Knysna Hillclimb.
It is powered by a Volkswagen 2.0l 20 valve engine with a Hx45 Holset turbo and produces 780 BHP at 2.3 bar.
The engine was built using arias custom 10.5 comp, pouter rods, steel main bearing caps with brace, Supertech valves, springs, cams and external verniers.
The powertrain is the four-wheel drive Audi sourced unit with limited slip differentials front and rear. The clutch is a Tilton triple pack unit. Koni shocks were fitted all round and braking is via Alcon six piston callipers. A 40l fuel cell was installed with 2 Bosch 044 pumps.
On the interior a roll cage was installed with Recaro carbon racing seats and safety harnesses. An electric power steering unit and digital Haltech dash display finish off the cabin.
The colour scheme was inspired by the Audi Quattro rally cars of the 1980’s and a rear wing was sourced from the Porsche GT3
